Seeing a Mini Milky Way

Every day I am reminded of how lucky I am to be in Korea. When I'm walking and see mini glimpses of mountain tops, or finding a great artisan coffee shop with great people watching spots, I am blessed. Another reason is also time aligning with perfectly with many things on my "to-see" list.

This weekend I was able to cross off "South Korean Lantern Festival." The lantern festival started two years ago to celebrate Buddha's birthday. Korea is a predominantly Buddhist country. It is so Buddhist that for Christmas they only have that one day off! A friend was telling me that for Christmas, Korean's will hang out with friends instead of family and everything is open. I'm excited to experience it. As for buddha's birthday, there is an entire week off.

Someone who went to the lantern festival last year told me that if I got to the festival by 4'o clock, I would have the best seats in the house. My friends and I got there at 4, and all the tickets for the stadium were sold out. I didn't find it to be the biggest dilemma, and fortunately, the friends I were with didn't either. Isn't it such a blessing when the universe sends people your way with the same personality and values?

We marched our booties over to the Daegu Tower, grabbed some delicious foods and watched the lanterns get released from a distance. Even though the lanterns were so far, they looked like thousands of stars floating up the sky and was exactly how I imagined them to be. They were beautiful, and everyone in their life has to see the festival at least once in their life. It was exactly like the scene from Tangled. Maybe next year I will be able to get into the stadium.

I've always believed that good experiences, especially traveling ones, are made great by the people and company you surround yourself with. This weekend made me realize it even more. I always love traveling by myself, but maybe this year I'll spend more trips with other people.
